Questions:

Why doesn't my shortcut work after I download an update?

Every time I log in to the Windows App it prompts me to get an update. How do I avoid this?

Answer:

When there is an update available, a download button will be given immediately after logging in. When it is clicked, the old exe will be replaced with the newer one and the log in screen will be launched.

In order for the update process to work correctly, the executable (AWdbRemote.exe) needs to be on the desktop. If there is a shortcut that points to the exe, one of the above problems will likely occur - the shortcut won't work or it will keep launching the old version so you are continually prompted to get the update.

If you have one of these situations, follow these steps:

  • Delete all instances of AWdbRemote.exe (and shortcuts) from the Desktop AND any in the downloads folder.
  • Go to our website and download the current version of the Windows App.
  • Be sure to follow the instructions for placing it on the Desktop.

Note: after an update, the new exe will likely not be in the same spot on the desktop as the old one; but it will be there. Just move it back to where you like it.

Updates cannot be skipped. It should be a simple process and only take an extra minute. If you experience trouble and this post doesn't help resolve it, please contact us so we can help!
